Boarding is both sad and liberating at the same time. With students who go to college and who rent a room in a house or lodging units, it is always an option to just stay in whether alone or with other boarders. Getting an apartment can be practical but only if you have other people to share the rent with, those who go to the same school or are relatives and close friends. This set-up is being preferred, because it can offer a life that is similar to that of a home’s set-up: a couch and a TV set in the living room, cooking appliances in the kitchen, a bathroom that is conjugal only for the occupants and not the rest of the neighborhood, and an internet that can be transformed to a WiFi connection with just a router, allowing each one who has a laptop unit to surf anywhere in the house.
The perks of independent living are so many that you sometimes fail to recognize that you are indeed growing up. You fend for yourself and are solely responsible for what will happen to you. If you rent bedroom, then you are among thousands of students who are away from home. Like what has been mentioned, there will come a point, even if it be just once, that you will break down and miss home. Being away means you cannot help them out with the chores and whatever problem they are going through. Add to that the fact that you can imagine just how much they work hard just to send you your allowance and school expenses. This point of your life is magnified especially if you know your family is financially struggling from the start. But then again, life is like that.
Despite the loneliness that will engulf you once you venture out to chase your dreams, you will soon learn to appreciate such opportunity. Some kids are forced to stay out of school because the family cannot afford the education fees, how much more for their child to rent a room in a boarding house. Others who can go might be asked instead to study somewhere near home so they could just go home every day and help in the errands. Thus, once you are given the opportunity to move into another city or state for the sake of your fulfillment as a student and as a person in seek of knowledge, and then make the most out of the experience.
Rent bedrooms that will make you feel just right and that will not cost you too much. To remind you of home, bring some memorabilia or items that represent each member of the family. You can surround yourself with the posters you had at home, put up a photo wall containing faces of your friends and family, anything just to make you feel that you belong. And then enjoy every single second of being free.
Independence can be granted to anyone, even those who cannot handle it, or do not deserve it. If given the chance to rent a room in a place you can be comfortable in, relish the fact that you do have shelter and a roof above your head, as others are even forced to sleep along streets. Live each day like it is your last and remind yourself how lucky you are to be able to venture out into the world of sanity and insanity. |
